A broken heart so full of pain
Yet unwilling to forget or regret
Even that which caused so big a hole
In so fragile a beating heart.
A heart that gave all of itself,
Its adventures, worlds, and passions
To those that would walk the path
For a short time knowing all the while
That it must come to a close.
They must move on,
Forward to forget and take with them
A small piece of that heart that loved them,
A loving piece freely given
To those who could only forget and move on.
Fleeting companions who could never stay,
Giving only an ephemeral moment of joy
To a heart longing for love and friendship.
A heart breaking for each friend lost
Yet never regretting that decision
To give away those pieces of self
And take the pain in its stride
So to have that brief instant of reprieve
From the incapacitating loneliness
That threatens to overwhelm
With each passing day,
And each passing place,
Stretching throughout insurmountable time.
